Core Values
St. Mary's Academy is built on the core values of Faith, Commitment, Excellence and Service. Our core values help define our school culture, guide our behavior, and shape the strategies we pursue in meeting various challenges and opportunities. When placed in relationship to each other, our shared values produce an unfolding of the Ignacian Marian virtues and attributes we espouse.

We value FAITH. Faith is our fidelity and love of God as expressed in our Christian leadership and service witnessing to Marian openness and Ignacian responsiveness to the needs of the church and our community.

We value COMMITMENT. Commitment to Nationalism, Continual Improvement, and Quality Catholic Education.

We value EXCELLENCE. Our actions are in adherence to worthy personal and highest professional standards. We seek, promote and deliver quality in every facet of our services. We value SERVICE. We help maintain and enhance the quality of life in the community where our school has a major presence as an integral part of evangelization. Our students and educators actively volunteer their time in support of partner schools, church and non-profit organizations in the community in pursuit of personal or school-wide advocacy of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation.

School Motto And School Seal

"AM" stands for "Ave Maria" in praise of our Blessed Mother, the Patroness of the RVM Congregation. The rays signify the light and wisdom which emanate from the Virgin, the Mother and the light of the world. The sampaguita beneath the book, being the national flower, is symbolic of the RVM being a Filipino congregation. The stars represent our Lady's many virtues.

At the center of the seal is an open book bearing the Latin inscription "Initium Sapientiae Timor Domini" which in English means "The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom". Appropriately, it has become the school's motto for it signifies filial fear, love, awe and profound reverence for the Divine source of wisdom, grace and life.

SCHOOL Greeting: "Praised be Jesus and Mary!"
GREETING Response: "Now and forever!"

The Marians
Students of St. Mary's Academy (SMA) are popularly known as Marians.

The Marian Graduate
  • has solid foundation in Christian faith
  • has imbibed the Ignacian Marian spirituality*
  • is academically competent
  • is a well-developed person; and
  • is ready to serve the church and society
The Ignacian Spirituality. As an RVM school, the Marian graduate is envisioned to have imbued the Ignacian spirituality characterized by deep faith in God, discernment, prayerfulness, humility, service to others, and the courage to take risks.

The spirituality of M. Ignacia del Espiritu Santo, foundress of the RVM Congregation, can be summarized in the acronym OPPTIC with each letter representing a characteristic of M. Ignacia's spirituality.
  • O - Openness to the Holy Spirit
  • P - Pondering Heart of Mary
  • P - Perseverance
  • T - Trusts in God's Loving Providence
  • I - Intimacy with Christ and Integrity
  • C - Courage and Creative Service Rooted in Faith, Love and Humility

The acronym OPPTIC is significant because it calls to mind the word optic which means "related to vision or pertaining to the eye." M. Ignacia's OPPTIC expresses her fundamental orientation toward God, viewing everything in the light of God's will, experiencing all things in God's presence and transforming even the negative events into means of hope and light.
