Marian Student Government


The welfare and well-being of the students is the prime-concern of the organization. While it provides leadership training for all its officers and members, it also aims to develop and produce persons committed to render unconditional service to the school and community where they belong. It also prepares them to become productive and useful citizens of the country.

Student Leadership Organizations

Marian Barangayette. The Barangayette is the Student Council of the Grade School whose purpose is to unify the students, encourage all students to become involved in class and school activities, sponsor service and other projects in which the class can participate, and organize and support fund-raising projects. Graders' Barangayette serves as a training ground for the development of good responsible and committed Christian leaders in school and in the community.
Marian Student Government. The MSG is HS Student Council of SMA whose primary concern is the welfare and well-being of the students. The MSG promotes leadership and develops character. It aims to develop persons committed to render unconditional service to the school and community where they belong, which prepares them to become productive and useful leaders and citizens of the country. The organization provides leadership training for all its leaders and officers.

  • MUNTING DALIRI (BEGINNERS) - aims to provide young Marians with rich visual arts workshop that enhance their basic knowledge and skills in visual arts.
  • SCRIBBLERS CLUB (MANUSCRIPT) - aims to help students develop good handwriting skills in manuscript form.
Primary Level

GRADE ONE

1. Kiddymathics

Aims to foster and promote student interest in mathematics and its applications focused in addition of whole numbers including money values.

2. Praise! Club

Aims to develop appreciation of music among young children by providing them opportunity to experience the joy of using music to express their feelings for God in a loving learning environment.

3. Teatrong Bulilit (Level 1)

Malinang ang kakayahan sa pag-awit, pagsayaw, at pag-arte sa pamamagitan ng iba't ibang gawaing pangtanghalan na nagpapakita ng pagmamahal sa lahing pinagmulan, pagmamalaki sa kulturang nakagisnan at sa wikang binibigkas.

4. Readers Theater

Aims to encourage effective communication through expressive guided reading as a way to practice and improve student's fluency and speaking skills. The club also nurtures a love of reading to its members.

 

GRADE TWO

1. Young Speakers Club

Aims to develop student's oral communication through different activities.

2. MATHalino

Aims to foster an awareness and promote student interest in the theory applications of mathematics focused in subtraction.

3. English Scribblers Club (Cursive)

Aims to help students develop good basic handwriting skills in cursive form.

4. Teatrong Bulilit (Level 2)

Naglalayong maipakita ang sariling kakayahan at galing sa pag-awit, pagsayaw at pag-arte sa pamamagitan ng iba't ibang gawaing pangtanghalan.

 

GRADE THREE

1. MATHinik

Aims to foster and promote student interest in the theory and application of mathematics focused in multiplication.

2. Entablado (Level 3)

Naglalayong malinang ang kakayahan sa pantanghalang pagganap o pag-arte tungo sa paggamit ng wasto at maayos na pagsasalita ng Wikang Filipino.

3. Wacky-Waves Club

Aims to provide opportunities for students to discover and appreciate the importance of water.

4. Young Writers Club

Aims to train the students express their thoughts and feelings through creative writing.

 

Intermediate Level (Grades 4-6) Curricular/Social/Educational

1. BaliTambuli

Naglalayong maipakita ang pagiging bukas ng kaisipan sa mga nagaganap sa kapaligiran at mapahalagahan ang kasaysayan ng bansang Pilipinas.

2. Cyber Kids Club

Aims to strengthen skills and keep Marians posted on new trends and knowledge in basic computer application.

3. D 4 P's (Pakikinig, Pagbasa, Pagsasalita at Pagsulat)

Naglalayong mapalawak ang kasanayan sa paggamit ng Wikang Filipino sa pamamagitan ng pakikinig, pagbasa, pagsasalita at pagsulat.

4. Earth Force Club

Aims to strengthen environmental awareness and encourage members to help address simple problems related to the environment.

5. Microbial Club

Aims to develop awareness on the effects of micro-organisms to human health and help the members deal with problems related to health sanitation.

6. Mother Ignacia Club

Aims to promote the cause of Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo thru prayer, in-depth study of her life and work and reach-out especially to the underprivileged as a Christian way of responding for the love of God and neighbor in Christ and to help deepen students' faith and trust in the God-given intercessory power of Mother Ignacia for the service of the Church.

7. Ministry of the Altar Servers (MOAS)

Aims to provide training opportunity for students to share in the liturgical ministry of the school by their assistance at Eucharistic celebrations.

8. Tanghalan at Panitikan

Naglalayong malinang ang iba't ibang kasanayan sa Filipino sa pamamagitan ng pagkatha, pagsasadula at masining na pagbasa.

9. TGIM (Think Good It's Math)

Aims to develop the four fundamental skills and apply critical thinking in solving problem.

10. Y.E.S! Club (Young English Speakers Club)

Is focused on the development of practical skills related to oral English communication through interactive learning activities that would make students dynamic, realistic, and effective communicators. Students learn to enjoy learning English and to practice speaking in English.

11. Young Masters' Club

Is a co-curricular activity for students who are interested in visual arts. The club promotes the appreciation, interest and understanding of Art by providing students opportunities to express themselves creatively.

12. Special Interests (Career/Social/Recreational /Moral/Religious)

  • Booklovers Club - as a functional arm of the SMA Library, the club aims to promote library usage among students and help increase their love of reading as they develop their basic library research skills. It also serves as an avenue for their development to be service-oriented Marians.
  • CMM (Children's Music Ministry) - provides an avenue for active participation of students during liturgical celebrations through singing and playing guitar. Cooky Tips - aims to develop students' appreciation for culinary arts by providing them basic and functional cooking tips for good recipes.
  • GS Yearbook Club - is organized to create and design the Marian Yearbook. Its aim is to document remarkable pupils' experiences and chronicles of the legacy of its graduates. The group also exists to help students develop leadership skills, give background in publication production, and offer the opportunity to make friends.
  • Boy Scout - aims to provide young boys opportunities for service through well-planned program of activities towards the development of leadership skills and potentials and help them realize their present and future roles as active and participating citizens of the country. It also aims to promote camaraderie, character development, citizenship training and skills for self-reliance.
  • Junior Girl Scout - is the girls-only association for ages 9-12. This club aims to embody the Girl Scouts ideals of good citizenship and help girls realize the ideals of womanhood and prepare them for their responsibilities in the home, to the nation, and the world community.
  • Little Marian Publication. The GS Student Newspaper organization aims to train students express their thoughts and feelings through creative writing by providing them with experience in reporting, writing, editing, and understanding responsible journalism. The organization produces the GS student newspaper for disseminating school-related information among the members of the school community.
  • Peer Facilitators Club - is an extension program of the Guidance Center which aims to develop well-adjusted individuals through group-guided trainings and seminars on self, social development and peer counseling.
  • SMA Dance Troupe - promotes the preservation, advancement and appreciation of popular Filipino folk dances through training of interested students perform local choreographed dance concert for entertainment.

13. Athletics/Sports/ Recreational

  • Blue Rocket Club - aims to develop the basic skills and techniques in playing badminton.
  • Cagers Club - aims to develop and prepare young men for competitive basketball as they develop qualities of physical fitness, competitive spirit, team play and good sportsmanship.
  • Glee Club - aims to intensify the development of refined taste in music through group singing. Aside from promoting desirable social attitudes and sense of responsibility in its members, the club helps foster school and community relationship through its rendition and participation in musical cultural activities inside and outside the school.
  • SMA Aiki Club - aims to train students in a non-aggressive self-defense system. It emphasizes the importance of achieving complete mental calmness, and control of one's own body, which in turn develops discipline, tolerance and patience.
  • Taekwondo Club - as a form of martial art this club aims to provide students of basic training to develop a strong mind and body. Students learn taekwondo patterns, which includes blocks, kicks, self-defense, forms and sparring. It builds foundation on principles and tenets of taekwondo including self-discipline, self-confidence, modesty, indomitable self-spirit, perseverance and respect among students and to all taekwondo practitioners.

 

High School Level

1. High School Athletics/Sports/Recreational

  • Badminton Club. This club aims to promote the game and sport of badminton within the SMA community by providing members the opportunity to learn, grow through regular practice, increase their competitive skills for participation in tournaments, and enjoy badminton while promoting leadership character, spirit of sportsmanship and fellowship among members.
  • Basketball Club. This club aims to develop and prepare young men for recreational and competitive basketball as they develop qualities of physical fitness, competitive spirit, team play, school loyalty, and good sportsmanship.
  • Chess Club. The club aims to promote the game of chess in SMA community and provide interested students with an opportunity to learn and play chess for educational, recreational, and competitive purposes in an informal, friendly, wholesome, and social atmosphere. The club develops the values of respect, patience and fair play as well as mental skills such as logical thinking, decision-making, mathematics, problem solving, and critical thinking.
  • SMA Aiki Club. This club aims to train students in a non-aggressive self-defense system. It emphasizes the importance of achieving complete mental calmness and control of one's own body which in turn develops discipline, tolerance and patience.
  • Table Tennis Club. The club aims to provide members of basic skills in playing Table Tennis. It offers essential offensive and defensive techniques in playing the game. The club promotes the enjoyment of the sport, which underscores the values of patience, determination, sportsmanship, and camaraderie among its members.
  • Taekwondo Club - as a form of martial art this club aims to provide students of basic training to develop a strong mind and body. Students learn taekwondo patterns, which include blocks, kicks, self-defense, forms, and sparring. It builds foundation on principles and tenets of taekwondo including self-discipline, self-confidence, modesty, indomitable self-spirit, perseverance and respect among students and to all taekwondo practitioners.
  • The Varsity Team. The varsity team is the official representative of the school in different sports tournament outside the school. Members of the varsity are Marians with outstanding skills in particular sports like basketball, volleyball, chess, table tennis, badminton, and taekwondo.
  • Volleyball Club. This club aims to promote the playing of volleyball at all levels in the school campus in a friendly and social atmosphere. It serves as a training ground for athletes to enhance their volleyball skills, develop leadership skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie among the members.

2. Curricular/Social/Educational

  • English Prowess is a club designed to help students use the English language with confidence and command. To ensure effective transfer of learning, the activities provided are geared toward learning function, which means putting language into use to perform, to send information and to make inquiries and analysis of different forms.
  • Earth Savers Society. The club aims to promote awareness of scientific and technological advancement by developing members acquire scientific skills, attitudes and values through inventive and creative activities in solving everyday problems pertaining to environment and its conservation.

  • Homemakers Club. The club serves as venue for the development of students' abilities, creativity and skills in home management and basic entrepreneurship in the context of Filipino family culture.
  • MAKABAYAN News Watchers Guild. The club aims to develop civic consciousness in the hearts and minds of the Marians by exposing them to current national and international issues. The members are expected to initiate various worthwhile activities to increase their awareness and vigilance in political, moral and socio-economic realities.
  • Marian Math Circle. As an extension of the Math Area, the club supports the area goal in developing a disciplined mind habit for thinking critically and analytically in applying acquired concepts, processes and skills through reinforcement and enrichment activities discussing current classroom topics. Math clinic and peer assistance are the best features of the club.
  • Math Wizards. The Marian Math Wizards is an extension arm of the Mathematics Area that aims to enhance the mathematical competence of students who can be potential representatives to various competitions.
  • Media Watcher's Guild. The club promotes social awareness through the different forms of media.
  • Mother Ignacia Club. The club aims to promote the cause of Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo thru prayer, in-depth study of her life and work and reach-out especially to the underprivileged as a Christian way of responding for the love of God and neighbor in Christ and to help deepen students' faith and trust in the God-given intercessory power of Mother Ignacia for the service of the Church.
  • Pilantik. Isang samahan na binuo upang paunlarin sa mga mag-aaral ang kanilang mga batayang kaalaman sa Panitikang Filipino at kakayahan sa pagsulat nito tungo sa malikhaing pagbuo ng sariling akdang pampanitikan sa iba't ibang genre tulad ng tula, sanaysay, maikling kwento, anekdota, balita at iba pa.
  • Salamin. Ito ay samahan na may tunguhing malinang ang likas na kakayahan sa mapanuring pakikinig, pagsasalita na may pagtangi, pagpapahayag ng sarili sa malikhaing pamamaraan, at mabisang paglalahad ng kaisipa't damdamin sa pamamagitan ng dulaan.
  • Science Wizards. The club supports the Science Program in developing scientific critical thinking skills by providing opportunities for students to be challenged outside the classroom by applying acquired concepts through the exchange of ideas and cooperation using varied hands-on activities. The club is exclusively designed for Science Achievers.
  • The Marian Post (High School Student Newspaper). It aids and promotes the school, St. Mary's Academy, the Marians, and its community, Pasay in countless ways. It has evolved other functions such as information, opinion, education, laboratory, documentation, and entertainment. It helps in developing students' potentials in creative writing, photography and cartooning, reporting events and other occurrences in a factual manner, and presenting the viewpoints of the editorial board concerning issues at hand.

3. Special Interests (Career/Social/Recreational/Moral/Religious)

  • Creative Arts Club. The Creative Arts offers activities for self-expression and interpretation through creative impressions. It develops self-confidence through different productions of visual art works in colors, forms, and texture in artworks and abstract design.
  • Marian Health Volunteers (MHVs). The club aims to train members in giving immediate care and assistance to injured or sick persons. It also provides programs in developing a healthy mind and body.
  • Peer Facilitators Club (PFC). The PFC is an extension program of the Guidance Center, which aims to develop well-adjusted individuals through group-guided trainings and seminars on self and social development.
  • The Yearbook Club. The Yearbook Club is an organization developed to produce the Marian Yearbook. Its major function is to capture the important school events, remarkable students' experiences, and timeless chronicles of legacy of its graduates. The group also exists to help students develop leadership skills, give background in publication production, and offer the opportunity to make friends.
  • Young Evangelizers. The club aims to train Marians to be evangelizers of the Catholic faith through the services rendered in liturgical celebrations.

4. Performing Arts (Dance, Theater, Musical)

  • Dance Club. The Dance Club aims to provide interested and talented students the opportunity to learn, enjoy, and perform modern and alternative dancing with preference to performing works that promote intellectual growth, body aesthetics, appreciation for dance as an art and social development.
  • Glee Club. The club aims to intensify the development of refined taste in music through group singing. Aside from promoting desirable social attitudes and sense of responsibility in its members, the club helps foster school and community relationship through its rendition and participation in musical cultural activities inside and outside the school.
  • Little Trumpets. Little Trumpets is a performing arts club that specializes in musical theatre. The main objective of the club is to develop the members' innate talent and skills in acting and other components of theatre arts. It also promotes the principle of improvisation and stanilavski theatre principles.
  • Marian Band. The Marian Band aims to develop students' talents in the field of music through playing of musical instruments and public performance of quality music while providing each student with a healthy social experience, a positive means for self-expression, and a worthy use of leisure time. As a social club, it fosters the development of essential character qualities of strong work ethic, a commitment to excellence, personal integrity, leadership skills, and a respect for self and for others.
  • SMA Dance Troupe. The Dance Troupe is a folkloric group which develops the members' skills in folk dancing and other local dances. The club promotes the preservation and appreciation of Filipino culture through the art of dancing.
