SMA Pasay Historical Development

1922
  • Foundation Year as Escuela Catolica de Pasay.
  • Managed by the parish priest, Rev. Igmidio Trinidad.
  • Offered primary education due to lack of physical facilities and personnel.
1939
  • RVM Sisters took over the management of the school upon the request of Most Rev. Michael O´Doherty, Archbishop of Manila
  • The school was named St. Mary's Academy in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
  • M. Ma. Josefa Avendaņo became the school´s first Superior.
1941
  • SMA-P ceased to operate because of World War II.
1945
  • SMA was among the first schools to resume classes, admitted hundreds of students who were eager to return to school.
1946
  • The Elementary course was granted government recognition.
1947
  • The Secondary Course was granted government recognition. There were ten (10) students who became the first batch of high school graduates.
1950 - 1960
  • Building of facilities to meet the growing needs of the school population.
1962 - 1963
  • Grade V and VI boys were transferred to Sta. Clara Parochial School due to increase in enrolment.

1965
  • Kindergarten Course was granted government recognition.
1968 - 1969
  • The construction of the Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo (MIDES) Building.
1970
  • SMA-P celebrated its Silver Jubilee.
1972
  • The First Faculty Club and the St. Mary´s Academy Parent´ Auxiliary (SMAPA) were formed.
1975
  • Assumption, Sacred Heart and St. Therese Buildings were constructed.
1979
  • SMA launched the Extension Service Program, the Mother Ignacia Skills Training Center (Pursuant to the enactment of PD No. 1139. "Creation of Non-Formal Education"
  • Free trainings were given in Dressmaking/Tailoring, Cosmetology, Typing and Computer and Speed Sewing.
1984
  • The High School Department received accreditation from PAASCU. accredited.
1986
  • The Grade School Departments received accreditation from PAASCU.
1994
  • SMA-P opened its doors to male students in the High School Department.
1997
  • The Holy Child building was constructed to provide students with expanded service facilities.
  • SMA-P celebrated its Diamond Jubilee as it marked its 75th Foundation Day.
1998
1999
  • SMA-P marked its 60th Year under the RVM administration.
  • The Mother Ignacia Center for Human Development (MICHD) building was constructed for the students of the M. Ignacia Skills Training Center.
2000
  • The High School Department was granted five-year clean accreditation using PAASCU Form B a result of revisit on October 1999.
2001
  • SMA took bolder steps to formulate a new Vision - Mission, Core Values, Quality Policy and Objectives.
  • The Grade School Department was granted five-year clean accreditation using PAASCU Form A as a result of revisit on 2000.
2002
  • SMA-P was certified to ISO 9001 for its management system.
2005
  • The High School Department was granted another five-year clean accreditation using PAASCU Form B 1998 Edition as a result of resurvey on November 2004.
2006
  • The Grade School Department was granted another five-year clean accreditation using PAASCU Form A as a result of resurvey on November 2005.
  • SMA-P adopted the Ignacian Marian description from the original Marian-Ignacian and incorporated Faith among its Core Values in harmony with the direction of the RVM Education Ministry.
  • With Ignacian earnestness, SMA-P continued its ascent to its goal for Faith, Commitment, Excellence and Service for social transformation.
2007
  • SMA-P celebrated its 85th Anniversary Foundation.
2008
  • Upon the recommendation of the PAASCU, the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP) granted Level III status to the Grade School Department in December 15, 2008 until November 2011.
2009
  • The end goal of Ignacian Marian education is to lead all to the fullness of life in Jesus Christ. In the pursuit of its mission, Marians will be equipped with a solid foundation of Christian faith, academic competence and a deep sense of commitment to serve the Church and the Community.
